Tigers run the Albion close

Plymouth Albion 25 Sedgley Tigers 19

National Division One

HAVING dominated the opening 40 minutes, the Tigers conceded three second-half tries to lose a game they should have won.

However, they left Albion a bruised and battered side and emerged with what could be a valuable losing bonus point.

Albion took the lead on four minutes thanks to a Brad Davies' penalty kick in the face of a gale force wind.

Having elected to play with the wind in the first half, Tigers' Phil Jones was unable to tame it with a penalty kick on eight minutes.

For their part, Albion had to run the ball at every opportunity and were met by a Tigers' defence that pummelled their ball carriers relentlessly The visitors then took the lead on 21 minutes.

Petrus Du Plessis burst through three tackles before offloading to Glen Townson who was driven over by the pack and with Jones supplying the extras.

On the half-hour, Albion winger Nic Sestaret was yellow-carded and the Tigers made the most of the man advantage.

The ball was spun along the backline to set up leading try scorer Chris Briers for a touchdown in the corner.

Then turnover ball gave centre Luther Burrell the simplest of runs to the home posts and Jones' conversion extended the Tigers' lead 16 points.

However, Davies' late penalty made the score at the break 6-19.

Eight minutes into the second half Albion pounced on a turnover and rolled the maul towards the Tigers' line where Keni Fisilau touched down, improved by Davies' conversion.

His show-and-go on 64 minutes then bought him enough space to slip through and run over by the posts. His conversion put Albion back in front by a point.

With seven minutes to go, the throw was too long at a lineout deep inside the Tigers' 22 and was snatched up by Albion's Mike Denbee who drove over for Albion's third and decisive try.

Sedgley lost this one but if they show the same determination this Saturday when London Welsh visit Park Lane (kick-off 2.30pm), they should get the win their effort richly deserves.
