THE Met have unveiled a new season featuring some of the finest musicians, comedians and performers around.

Living up to their reputation as one of the finest folk music venues in the country, the season starts on September 1 with Dave Swarbrick and Martin Carthy, the season also features newcomers Jonny Kearney and Lucy Farrell (September 22); the largest collection of famous folk names in All Along the Wall (September 23); Met favourites Heidi Talbot (October 1) and Eliza Carthy (October 22); and cross over bands Moishe’s Bagel (October 30) and Salsa Celtica (November 25).

The comedy line up features Jason Byrne (September 15); Justin Moorhouse (October 6) and the return of Tom Stade (November 2) as well as their monthly, ever popular comedy club.

Theatre features a mixture of horror and classic stories starting with F Scott Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby performed by Proper Job (September 21); the life of Sir Alec Guinness in Two Halves of Guinness (October 5); the terrifying tale of Frankenstein performed by the inventive and usually stunning Proteus (October 29) and get to know the real story of the Brothers Grimm in Grimm and Grimmer (November 30).

For younger theatre fans, or those of a nervous disposition, they have some fantastic shows for kids including Hairy Maclary (September 2); Hansel and Gretel (October 8); a dance version of the Selfish Giant (October 25) and the ever popular Stickman returns on November 12.

The Beer Festival returns bigger and better than ever this year on November 18 and 19 with beers from local and independent breweries as well as delicious food and great music.

Finally, The Met’s festive show for this year is Scrooge: A Christmas Carol running from December 12 to 24. Performed by Proper Job Theatre Company, who were responsible for the sell out show last year, the Christmas show promises to be a great success and a perfect way to get the family in the festive spirit.
