ALADDIN

The Lowry, Salford Quays

Until Saturday

PREPARE to be whisked away on a magic carpet to another world where wishes can be granted and dreams come true.

Birmingham Royal Ballet, regulars at The Lowry in Salford Quays, returned to the venue last night with a dazzling production of Aladdin.

The show has all the lavish sets, stunning costumes and awe-inspiring dancing you would expect from one of the country’s finest ballet companies.

The production tells the story of Aladdin, who falls in love with the Emperor’s daughter. But the course of true love never runs smooth and, first, there are the issues of a magic lamp and tricky magician to deal with.

Recently promoted to principal, Mathias Dingman displays incredible technique and stage presence as Aladdin.

Momoko Hirata, as Princess Badr al-Budar, is mesmerising thanks to her technical ability combined with obvious strength and skill.

The pair head up an incredibly strong cast and to see the full ensemble on stage, performing perfectly in unison, is a delightful sight.

Other highlights include a larger than life dancing Chinese lion and Tzu-Chao Chou as The Djinn of the Lamp.

With rousing music by BAFTA award-winning Carl Davis and vibrant designs by Dick Bird, the spectacular show is a real treat.

Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Aladdin, directed by David Bintley, is at The Lowry until Saturday. Visit thelowry.com for tickets.
