IT is an iconic film that continues to capture the imagination of generations.
Now a stage version of Dirty Dancing is returning to Manchester’s Palace Theatre this week, after a successful run which saw 100,000 people enjoy the show in December, 2011.
Paul-Michael Jones, from Rochdale, is back as Johnny Castle — a role made famous by Patrick Swayze in 1987.
Paul-Michael said: “We came to Manchester once before. It went down so well. I’m even more pleased because I’m from Rochdale. To be back home is great.”
Written by Eleanor Bergstein, script writer and creator of the film, the production features all the much-loved characters and dialogue with extra scenes added.
The worldwide smash-hit tells the story of Baby and Johnny, two fiercely independent young spirits from different worlds, who come together in what will be the most challenging and triumphant summer of their lives.
Paul-Michael said: “I think I started watching the film as soon as I started dancing. It was so successful, the soundtrack is amazing, people have such fond memories of the film. The show really is so true to the film.”
n Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage is at the Palace Theatre until Saturday, June 15.
