FLATS could be built at a “quiet and tranquil” spot next to the Matalan store in Tonge Moor.

Proposals for three blocks on the former industrial site at the dog leg bend in Tonge Moor Road have been lodged with Bolton Council.

The applicant, the Derby-based FTM Pension Fund, wants to provide houses split into seven one- and two-bedroom apartments and seven two- and three-bedroom maisonettes as well as a car park with one space per property and rear gardens.

The scheme’s design and access statement says: “All the living space is accommodated to the south to maximise the quiet and tranquil nature of the setting and the views across the River Tonge.

“The intention for the proposed house designs and their surrounding landscaping is to fit within the already existing local context and further enhance the appearance of the area.

“The houses are of an inclusive and flexible design which will allow the scheme to adapt to future demographic trends.”

In front of the houses will be “public spaces” designed to encourage social cohesion, the design and access statement says.
