Wigan Robin Park 3 Prestwich Heys 0
PRESTWICH Heys dismal end-of-season form continued on Tuesday night as they were well beaten by championship hopefuls Robin Park in a fixture switched to Sandgate Road.
Having picked up just two points from the last 15 available, the summer break seemingly cannot come soon enough for Heys.
But with three games remaining of their roller coaster season, all on the road, Prestwich must look to regain some sort of form or risk finishing in the bottom half of the table for the first time since the turn of the century.
The midweek games and resulting unavailability of various players may offer some excuse as to the Heys slump, but just one goal now in five outings shows where the obvious problem lies.
Youngster Rhys Hardie's long ball forward fell perfectly in the path of Carl Lomax on 20 minutes but the powerful striker's first-time shot sailed wide.
Robin Park enjoyed the better of the first-half chances with a dipping effort from distance going just over before a powerful low drive two minutes later flew just wide of Bernstein's upright.
Heys' resistance finally broke on the hour when the visitors took the lead before doubling their advantage shortly after with a chipped effort that hit the bar but was headed home by an alert forward.
Danny Johnson's long-range shot was collected by the Park keeper and a Lomax snap-shot whistled wide.
Sub Michael Hoggard showed good determination to win the ball on the right before pulling back for Lomax whose curling shot was narrowly off-target.
Wigan wrapped up the scoring with 15 minutes remaining although Sam Smith nearly grabbed a consolation but his low shot was scrambled around the post.
