Stand's 2nds win Hulme Trophy

STAND’S second team beat Woodhouses by 24 runs to lift the Hulme Trophy.

The last time the trophy was in Stand’s procession was in 1977, before most of the current young side were born.

Lee Chadwick and Andrew Sharp added a vital 54 run partnership for the third wicket, opener Chadwick scoring a hard-fought 40.

Stand scored 167 and Woodhouses were looking likely winners on 143-8 with seven overs left.

But Stand had other ideas and their determination to win the trophy saw the game turn their way A change of bowling was required and the openers were thrown the ball.

The reintroduction of Jack Ritchie almost immediately paid dividends as he slowed the rate right down, forcing a batsman to take on a risky single which led to the run out of Meagram for 13, thanks to another superb piece of fielding by Ahmed.

In the next over Noman Ahmed cleaned bowled Heppell for a gutsy 38 to ensured Stand’s name was etched onto the Hulme Trophy.

Ahmed finished with 2-13 from 7.2 over, instigated two run outs, took a catch and was firmly in contention for the man-of-the-match award. However, for his 4-31 that award went to Dave Foreman.
