A five-year-old boy is fighting for his life and a lorry driver has been arrested after a “serious” motorway crash.

The crash is believed to have happened at around 2.45pm on Monday April 29 on the M67 eastbound.

Police say that they believe a heavy goods vehicle and a Vauxhall Astra, carrying the five-year-old boy and a 38-year-old woman, were involved.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “The two occupants of the Astra, a 38-year-old woman and five-year-old boy were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

“The woman’s injuries are described as not life-threatening; however, the child’s injuries are described as life-threatening.

“A 39-year-old man, the driver of the HGV, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

“Investigations are ongoing at this stage.

“Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

“They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.”
